The Story of One Italian Summer

My mom and I have always been super close, but living in different parts of the country makes it hard to spend as much time together as we’d like, so we take mother/daughter trips together when we can. My mom spent the summer in Italy when she was in her early twenties and has always talked about how magical of a time it was. She fell in love there.

When we went to Italy together in the summer of 2019, I got to see the sights of her memories. It was a return for her, but it felt like one for me, too. While we were there, we tracked down online the man she fell in love with that summer (she’s happily married now, of course). I watched as they met at the Trevi Fountain just like they did all those years ago. He even brought along a love charm he’s held onto since—though I won’t reveal how many years it’s been!

It was a really cute reunion and, if you’ve been following me on Instagram for a while, you might have even some of their encounter when I shared on my Stories. It was on that trip to Rome and Positano that I started thinking about mothers and the lives they live before we’re ever on the scene—a thought that eventually became One Italian Summer.
